National language of France, French is spoken in Canada, Belgium, Monaco and Switzerland, parts of Africa, Haiti and many more - it's a great choice for exporting. Here's more on this fascinating language.
Translating English to French note that punctuation is different, with spaces before colons : & semicolons ; - exclamation ! and question marks ?, and has different "speech marks", normally « this » (note spaces) but 'this' for reported conversation. Uppercase is rare - "French" => "français" - and commas and points reverse in numbers, so 1,234.56 becomes 1.234,56. So French typesetting services selection matters - DO use an expert!
French correspondence is "fancier" and more affected by relationships - English to French correspondence translation grows considerably, while French to English will shrink. Our FAQs and (free!) Really Helpful Friendly Guide offer more advice.
English to French translation may grow 30%, which with unique punctuation makes French typesetting tricky - our French proofreading finds errors in 90% of others' French typesetting. Just one reason our own very affordable in-house 100% proof-read multilingual typesetting is so popular.
Our popular French interpreter services don't just cover the UK - we've interpreted in The Gabon and more. Just call Freefone 0800 783 4678 or e-mail our interpreter team for more details - we provide liaison, conference, court and medical interpreting services.
Certified translation is the UK equivalent to Europe's "sworn translation"; translators need excellent qualifications and experience, and normally CIoL or ITI membership. Non-UK use may require sworn or notarised translation, or a Consulate-registered translator - see our certified page.
Our transcription services are popular for research and legal applications, and can be mono- or bilingual (with French to English translation). Certified transcription will generally be required for legal use.
Checkout our voiceover page. Unusually among French voiceover providers we're primarily a translation company, so our French subtitling and voiceover scripts are ALL mother-tongue professionally translated and 100% reviewed in-house - surprisingly uncommon for commercial voiceover!
Length of course matters in French voiceover - if you're making video for French voiceover, allow for longer translation (and do ENSURE your translator is familiar with translating for French voiceover!). There's more in our Really Helpful Friendly Voiceover Guide.
